Rangers Take Game 1 vs. Capitals in 2024 Playoffs
Vesey, Panarin Lead the Way
The New York Rangers took Game 1 of their 2024 playoff series against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Jimmy Vesey and Artemi Panarin led the way for the Rangers, each recording a goal and an assist in the 4-1 victory.
Rempe Opens Scoring
The Rangers struck first at 4:17 of the second period when Julien Gauthier fed K'Andre Miller, who found Rempe for a tap-in goal. It was Rempe's first NHL playoff goal.
Vesey Extends Lead
Vesey made it 2-0 Rangers just over five minutes later. He stripped the puck from Martin Fehérváry behind the Capitals' net and wrapped it around for a wraparound goal.
Panarin Seals the Deal
Panarin put the game away with a power-play goal at 18:15 of the third period. He took a pass from Vincent Trocheck and beat Darcy Kuemper short-side.
Lundqvist Shines in Goal
Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves for the Rangers, while Kuemper stopped 33 shots for the Capitals. New York outshot Washington 37-30.
Game 2 in New York
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Capitals will need to find a way to generate more offense if they want to tie the series.
