After a highly anticipated buildup, Tiger Woods officially kicked off his quest for a record-breaking 24th consecutive cut at the Masters Tournament. Starting on the 10th hole, Woods' opening drive on Thursday found the fairway, showcasing his signature accuracy and power. However, his approach shot to the green on the par-4 landed short, leaving him with a tricky chip that ended up just off the putting surface.
With a delicate touch, Woods chipped the ball onto the green, but his birdie attempt curled just to the left of the cup, settling for a two-putt par. Undeterred, Woods continued to play steady golf, hitting fairways and greens in regulation while minimizing mistakes. By the end of his first nine holes, he had carded an even-par 36.
After making the turn, Woods encountered some challenges, including a missed short putt for par on the 12th hole. However, he bounced back with a birdie on the par-5 13th, reaching the green in two and calmly sinking an eight-foot putt. He followed that up with another par on the 14th, setting himself up for a potential sub-par round.
Unfortunately, a bogey on the par-4 15th hole halted Woods' momentum. Nevertheless, he managed to recover his composure and parred the final three holes, finishing with a respectable 1-over 73. While it may not have been the start he was hoping for, it keeps him in contention for his historic cut streak and gives him a solid foundation to build upon in the remaining rounds.
