He founded the legendary band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, which served as a launchpad for some of the biggest names in blues and rock, including Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, and Jack Bruce.
Clapton, who played guitar in the Bluesbreakers from 1965 to 1966, paid an emotional tribute to his former mentor on social media.
